They read at their own pace, and can tap any individual word, say it, and get real pronunciation feedback on just that word. On Standard, the app listens as they read and scores their daily practice, following along word by word. On Pro, every session is scored, every day, which is the closest thing to a daily reading tutor. Narrator Read Aloud is available as a per-child add-on on all three plans.

Reading science is clear that children learn to read on two tracks at once: decoding (sounding words out) and language comprehension (the vocabulary, background knowledge, and story language that make text mean something). Skilled reading needs both; researchers call this the Simple View of Reading, pictured in Scarborough’s Reading Rope. Being read to is how young readers build the vocabulary and comprehension they’ll need years before they can decode it, which is why the landmark Becoming a Nation of Readers report called reading aloud “the single most important activity” for eventual reading success. With Narrator Read Aloud, every story weaves the two tracks together: the narrator reads the richer lines aloud with fluent, expressive narration your child follows along with, while your child reads the lines matched to their phonics level. That puts decoding practice and language-building in the same story. Without it, there are no narrator lines: stories are written at your child’s level, for them to read on their own.

Absolutely. Children’s names are pseudonymised and encrypted, and are never used to generate stories or illustrations. For read-aloud, the story text is sent to our speech provider to be voiced but is not retained by them, and we don’t store voice recordings. See our Security and Privacy pages for the full picture.

Stories are generated on demand, so your child can read a fresh adventure every session. Plans include generous monthly fair-use limits on AI creations, set well above what a typical family uses and there only to prevent misuse. Almost no family comes close; if you’re a super-reader who does, just get in touch.

As a growing product, we may adjust pricing over time. If we ever change your price, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice and you can cancel before it takes effect, and we work to protect early subscribers wherever we can.
